Check out the Beginners Workshop page for more information and to register. We hope to see you there!
Hey everyone, it’s that time of year for the Pittsburgh Taiko Beginner Sessions! Now’s your chance to try taiko and see what it’s all about.
We’ll be meeting every Saturday in September (that’s Sept. 7, 14, 21, and 28) from 12pm to 2pm at the Winchester Thurston Lower School (555 Morewood Ave).
All four classes are FREE with a valid student ID, or $20 dollars for all other participants.
Finally! If you’d like to reserve a spot and make sure we’re expecting you, click on the link below!
Good news everyone! We will be offering a beginner session on January 19th for anyone interested in learning about Taiko drumming.
See the ‘Beginner Sessions’ page for more details. Hope to see you there!
Edit (1/28/13): Thank you everyone who showed up, we hope that you all enjoyed your taste of taiko and that you come back to play with us! Please remember that you’re welcome to come and try taiko any time during the year! Send us a message from the ‘Joining’ page and we’ll get right back to you.
We would like to wish everyone, wherever you are, a happy Thanksgiving!
For those of you who will be in the Pittsburgh area for this holiday, we will still have practice on both Wednesday and Saturday, and at out usual hours: Wednesday at 7pm and Saturday at 2pm.
EDIT: We will no longer be having practice on the 24th. But we’ll be practicing in spirit!!
Fall is approaching, but not yet here. However, its traces can be felt as the temperatures fall and leaves turn to brown.
On the other hand, things are heating up for us – we have a few new performances lined already, with more to come. And we’ve begun beginner lessons once more, reaching out to the local university students. We’ll have one more lesson, this Saturday – for anyone who wants to join us.
And there will be more later, of course.
Hello drummers and drumming fans!
As the title suggests, we’ve been graciously given the opportunity by OCA to play at this year’s Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta! We’re super excited, and we hope you’ll be able to come out, here’s the low-down on times:
We perform Tuesday, July 3rd at 6:10 pm!
And Wednesday, July 4th at 3:25 pm!
You have two chances to check us out! We’ll be playing on the main stage in Point State Park, so it’ll be hard to miss us.
We hope that you come out and enjoy the event!
Hello everyone! As usual, Pittsburgh Taiko will continue to practice and hone our kumidaiko skills over the summer.
Our location is still the Winchester Thurston school, but our hours are shifted a little. We’ll be meeting from 7 to 9 PM on Wednesday, and from 1 to 4 PM on Saturday.
6/19 EDIT: The Saturday time has been moved to 10am and will end at 12pm unless decided otherwise.
Hey everyone! We hope you’re having a very nice spring, despite the weather changing its mind constantly.
We want to remind you that in one week, Pittsburgh Taiko is proudly presenting our first (of hopefully many) Spring Concert! That’s Friday, April 6th at 7:30pm. It’ll be hosted in Bellefield Hall on the University of Pittsburgh campus, which is located on S. Bellefield Ave (surprise!) between Forbes and Fifth.
The facebook event page is located here! Share it with everyone you know!
Admission is completely free, and it’s gonna be a blast, so bring all your friends!
We also have a last minute announcement (sorry for the short notice)! We’ll be playing at the Japanese Student Association’s Matsuri on the CMU campus today! Please come out and enjoy drumming, food, and the other festivities they have lined up.
That’s it for now! Back to practice, practice, practice to give you the best show ever!
Greetings once again!
Before I get to our biggest news, we’d like to thank everyone who attended the February beginner sessions. We hope you had as much fun as we did, and we congratulate everyone on a job well done. おつかれさまでした!!
We don’t have any more beginner sessions planned just yet, but if you’re interested, please check back a little later on. We’ll update you as soon as we confirm the next sessions!
Now I’ve already spoiled the news in the title, but Pittsburgh Taiko is pleased to announced our first concert for Friday, April 6th! The time is tentatively set at 7:30pm, and the location is Bellefield Hall, on the University of Pittsburgh campus.
We’re all very excited and we hope that you come!
We’re still banging away at the drums, here at PT. What else would we do?
I’d like to announce the addition of a new page on the website, the Performance List! If you’re curious about what sort of events we’re planning to do, or what we’ve done in the past, look no further than this.
Would you look at that! We’ve played at a lot of places, haven’t we? I can hardly believe it!
Of course, we’re always happy to perform for you, so if you’re interested, click ‘Booking’ up at the top!
Do you know what else? We also have lots of fun teaching workshops for all ages! Seriously, we’ve hosted events for everyone from elementary school kids to teachers! You’re never too young or old to play taiko.
One final thing: Do remember that Beginner Sessions are rapidly approaching! If you have an interest in trying your hand at kumidaiko, don’t hesitate to
