On Saturday, May 11, Pittsburgh Taiko will give an hour-long presentation at Penn Hills Library. This is a mixed show and tell program - in between performing, we'll give you some basic taiko history and culture, and answer your questions.
When: Saturday, May 11, 1:00 pm
Where: Penn Hills Library, 1037 Stotler Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15235
Who: All ages
Cost: Free! Learn more and register at the library website.
We'll perform several of our favorite pieces, and you'll get to learn more about taiko history and practice, including:
- Taiko's origins in Japan and role in modern Japanese culture
- How taiko came to North America
- How drums are constructed
- How we learn taiko "songs"
- Why we're wearing those funny shoes!
We usually do this kind of program at school visits, so this is a rare opportunity for the general public to experience more than a performance.
The program is free, but preregistration is encouraged. Visit the library website to reserve a spot!

(Update - our shakuhachi player can't make it after all - but we'll have shinobue flutes and plenty of other cool things to demonstrate!)
