Pre-show performance at AKUTAGAWA on February 5

Pittsburgh Taiko will perform a few pieces before the evening performance of AKUTAGAWA on Sunday, February 5 at Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) school in downtown Pittsburgh.

AKUTAGAWA uses traditional kuruma ningyō puppetry, live music, and dynamic projected images to tell a story about the writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa. An influential but troubled artist, Akutagawa popularized the short story form in Japanese literature. His most familiar story to international audiences is "In a Grove," which inspired Akira Kurosawa's film Rashomon and recently was presented as a short opera ("In a Grove") that Pittsburgh Opera premiered in February 2022.

To attend the taiko show, you must have a ticket to the evening performance. Tickets and more information are available from the Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania: https://www.japansocietypa.org/event-4920297
